India's Defence Minister Inaugurates Ammunition Manufacturing Facility in Nagpur
India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated a Medium Caliber Ammunition Manufacturing Facility in Nagpur on January 19, 2026, aimed at producing 30mm ammunition for the armed forces. The government is pushing for increased private sector involvement in defence manufacturing, which has seen domestic production rise significantly from ₹46,425 crore in 2014 to approximately ₹1.51 lakh crore today. Defence exports have also surged, growing from under ₹1,000 crore a decade ago to ₹24,000 crore, underscoring India's commitment to self-reliance in the sector.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated a Medium Caliber Ammunition Manufacturing Facility at Solar Defence & Aerospace Limited in Nagpur, Maharashtra, on January 19, 2026. The fully automated plant will produce 30mm ammunition for the Indian Army and Navy.
Singh highlighted the government's goal to increase private sector involvement in defence manufacturing to over 50%. He noted that domestic defence production has risen from ₹46,425 crore in 2014 to approximately ₹1.51 lakh crore today, with private sector contributions exceeding ₹33,000 crore. India's defence exports have also grown from under ₹1,000 crore a decade ago to ₹24,000 crore, reflecting a shift towards self-reliance in ammunition manufacturing.
