India's Ministry of Defence Achieves Major Milestones in 2025 Amid Operation Sindoor and Defence Reforms

In 2025, the Indian Ministry of Defence marked the 'Year of Reforms' with significant advancements towards self-reliance in defense and a decisive military response during Operation Sindoor. The operation, initiated on May 6-7 in retaliation to a terrorist attack in Jammu & Kashmir that killed 26, resulted in the destruction of nine terror camps in Pakistan and PoK, killing over 100 terrorists.

On May 10, Pakistan launched an unsuccessful missile attack on Indian military installations, prompting a robust counter-strike by the Indian Air Force. The defense budget for FY 2025-26 was set at Rs 6.81 lakh crore, a 9.53% increase from the previous year, with a focus on domestic procurement.

Defence production reached Rs 1.51 lakh crore, and exports soared to Rs 23,622 crore. The year also saw the inauguration of new production lines for combat aircraft and advancements in indigenous technologies, underscoring India's commitment to strategic autonomy and military readiness.
