India's Ministry of Petroleum Reports Progress in Clean Energy and LPG Access Expansion in 2025
India's Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas announced significant advancements in clean energy access and LPG infrastructure by December 2025, with approximately 10.35 crore beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. The initiative has led to increased LPG consumption and a nationwide safety campaign resulting in extensive inspections and hose replacements. Additionally, the gas network has expanded significantly, and ethanol blending in petrol has achieved an average of 19.24%, contributing to substantial foreign exchange savings.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas reported progress in clean energy access and infrastructure development in 2025. By December 1, 2025, beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) reached approximately 10.35 crore, with an additional 25 lakh LPG connections approved for FY 2025-26 to achieve near-universal coverage.
PMUY beneficiaries receive a Rs 300 subsidy per 14.2 kg LPG cylinder for up to nine refills annually, leading to a rise in average per capita consumption from 3 refills in 2019-20 to about 4.85 refills for FY 2025-26. A nationwide safety campaign resulted in over 12.12 crore inspections and the replacement of 4.65 crore LPG hoses.
The gas network expanded to over 25,400 km, with City Gas Distribution reaching 307 areas. Ethanol blending in petrol averaged 19.24%, saving over Rs 1.55 lakh crore in foreign exchange. Significant reforms in the upstream sector were also noted, attracting $4.36 billion in investments.
