India's MoD Signs ₹4,666 Crore Contracts for CQB Carbines and Heavy Weight Torpedoes
The Ministry of Defence of India has signed contracts worth ₹4,666 crore for the procurement of Close Quarter Battle (CQB) Carbines and Heavy Weight Torpedoes, aiming to bolster indigenous military capabilities. The CQB Carbine contracts, valued at ₹2,770 crore, will supply over 4.25 lakh units for the Army and Navy, while a separate contract for 48 Heavy Weight Torpedoes, costing approximately ₹1,896 crore, will enhance the combat capabilities of Kalvari Class Submarines. Deliveries of the torpedoes are set to begin in April 2028 and conclude by early 2030.

On December 30, 2025, the Ministry of Defence of India signed contracts totaling ₹4,666 crore for the procurement of Close Quarter Battle (CQB) Carbines and Heavy Weight Torpedoes. The CQB Carbine contracts, worth ₹2,770 crore, involve over 4.25 lakh units for the Indian Army and Navy, signed with Bharat Forge Ltd and PLR Systems Pvt Ltd.
This initiative aligns with the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' vision to enhance indigenous military capabilities. Additionally, a contract for 48 Heavy Weight Torpedoes, valued at approximately ₹1,896 crore, was awarded to WASS Submarine Systems S.R.L., Italy, for integration with Kalvari Class Submarines, enhancing their combat capabilities.
Deliveries of the torpedoes are expected to begin in April 2028 and conclude by early 2030. In FY 2025-26, the Ministry of Defence has signed capital contracts worth ₹1,82,492 crore for armed forces modernization.
