Indonesia Revises Mineral Pricing Guidelines for Nickel and Bauxite
The Indonesian government is set to revise the benchmark pricing guidelines for nickel and bauxite effective April 15, 2026. This change aims to enhance the economic value of natural resources by incorporating additional mineral components into the pricing formula, ensuring a more equitable return for the country.

Starting April 15, 2026, the Indonesian government will implement new guidelines for determining the benchmark price of nickel and bauxite. The revised formula includes additional minerals such as cobalt, iron, and chromium, which were previously undervalued.
Director of PT Zubay Mining, Muhammad Emil, noted that this adjustment could lead to increased prices for nickel ore, particularly those with significant accompanying minerals. However, he cautioned that the downstream industry must adapt to rising costs to maintain competitiveness.
The changes will also affect pricing dynamics and contract negotiations within the industry. The policy reflects a strategic shift in managing natural resources to optimize economic returns for the nation.
