Indonesia to Implement New Mineral Pricing Guidelines for Nickel and Bauxite in 2026
Revised pricing guidelines for nickel and bauxite in Indonesia will take effect on April 15, 2026, incorporating additional minerals. This strategic shift aims to optimize economic returns while impacting industry pricing dynamics.

Effective April 15, 2026, Indonesia will enforce new guidelines for nickel and bauxite pricing that include cobalt, iron, and chromium in the benchmark calculation. Director of PT Zubay Mining, Muhammad Emil, indicated that these changes could elevate prices for nickel ore, especially those containing significant amounts of accompanying minerals.
The alterations are expected to influence contract negotiations and pricing strategies across the sector. The government's approach reflects a focus on enhancing economic returns from natural resources, necessitating that the downstream industry adjusts to maintain competitiveness amid rising costs.
