Indonesia to Modernize Giuseppe Garibaldi Aircraft Carrier Domestically Ahead of TNI Anniversary
The Indonesian Ministry of Defense plans to retrofit the Giuseppe Garibaldi aircraft carrier domestically, targeting completion before the TNI Anniversary on October 5, 2026. The retrofit will involve national companies and shipyards, although specific entities have not been disclosed. The acquisition of the carrier from Italy was through a government grant, with an estimated budget of Rp 7.2 trillion for maintenance and modernization. The ship, measuring 180.2 meters, will serve as a headquarters for operations once operational.
