Indonesia to Modernize Giuseppe Garibaldi Aircraft Carrier Domestically Ahead of TNI Anniversary

The Indonesian Ministry of Defense will retrofit the Giuseppe Garibaldi aircraft carrier domestically, aiming for completion before the TNI Anniversary on October 5, 2026. National companies and shipyards will be involved in the process, with selections to be made according to procurement mechanisms.
The aircraft carrier was acquired from Italy through a government-to-government grant, with a budget of Rp 7.2 trillion allocated for maintenance and modernization. The ship, 180.2 meters long and displacing 13,850 tons, will function as a headquarters ship upon becoming operational.
