Indonesian Vice President Cancels West Papua Visit Following Aircraft Shooting Incident

DEFENSE

Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka canceled his scheduled visit to Yahukimo District in West Papua due to security concerns after militants reportedly shot at an aircraft in the area. The West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB) claimed responsibility for the attack, asserting that its troops were targeting aircraft entering Dekai, Yahukimo's capital.

Local and national security forces assessed the situation and deemed it unsafe for the vice president to proceed with his visit. Intelligence indicated potential threats from groups that might disrupt the visit's security.

The central government's commitment to accelerating development in Yahukimo remains, and the visit will be rescheduled when conditions are deemed secure. Raka had previously conducted visits to Biak and Wamena without incident.
