Indoor Firing Range Proposal Faces Opposition in South Glengarry
A petition against an indoor firing range in South Glengarry is causing council to delay zoning decisions. Local residents express concerns over noise, safety, and property values while proponents highlight potential economic benefits.

The South Glengarry council is deliberating over a proposed indoor firing range on 4th Line/County Road 23, initiated by Arcane Defense's Eric Bouffard. The development aims to transform a 27-acre former salvage yard into a facility for training, education, and recreation for licensed gun owners, including local law enforcement.
Neighbors have launched a petition against the project, citing potential noise disturbances and safety issues, despite assurances of soundproofing. The current zoning status requires a change to Rural District to accommodate the range, which could lead to property value reductions between 3.7% and over 10%.
Environmental studies are ongoing to address concerns related to wetlands and wildlife. The facility's design includes a 25-meter and a 50-meter range, with a total area of approximately 3,251 square meters.
