INEOS and Sandpiper Launch Low-Carbon Methanol Project in Texas City
INEOS Acetyls partners with Sandpiper Chemicals for a $1.7 billion low-carbon methanol facility in Texas City, Texas. This project aims to produce 1.1 million metric tons of methanol annually, significantly contributing to the clean energy transition and job creation in the region.

INEOS Acetyls and Sandpiper Chemicals have established a strategic collaboration to develop a low-carbon methanol production facility in Texas City, Texas. The facility is projected to produce approximately 1.1 million metric tons per annum (MTPA) of methanol using natural gas with carbon capture technology, entering the Front-End Engineering and Design phase in Q2 2026 and aiming for first production in 2030.
The total investment is estimated at $1.7 billion, creating around 1,500 construction jobs and 25 permanent positions. The facility aims for a 97% capture rate of process CO₂ emissions and will utilize existing petrochemical infrastructure, enhancing commercial viability. This project is pivotal for advancing the low-carbon methanol market amidst rising global demand driven by sustainability mandates.
