Installation of Centurion Tanks at Marina Beach Enhances Public Military Heritage Awareness
Two Centurion tanks installed at Marina Beach, Chennai, symbolize India's military history and enhance public engagement. This initiative aims to educate citizens about the Armed Forces and their contributions.

The Indian Army has installed two British-designed Centurion tanks along Marina Beach, Chennai, for public viewing. This initiative, part of a broader outreach program, seeks to connect citizens with India's military heritage and instill values of duty and service.
The tanks, which served in the Indian Army from 1953 until phased out in the 1980s, were key during the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars, earning the nickname "Patton Killer" for their battlefield effectiveness. The project reflects a collaboration between the Indian Army, the Government of Tamil Nadu, and the Greater Chennai Corporation. This installation not only commemorates military valor but also highlights Chennai's role in armoured vehicle production and research.
