Intensified Myanmar Military Strikes in Kayin Amid Resistance Assault
Myanmar's military escalates artillery and air strikes in Kayin as the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) mounts a significant offensive. The control of Waw Lay is crucial, potentially altering power dynamics along the Thai-Myanmar border.

Myanmar's military has intensified air and artillery attacks in Kayin state as resistance fighters from the KNLA advance against the regime's base in Waw Lay. This offensive, which began on April 28, aims to encircle the military stronghold, following the resistance's recent capture of several outposts.
Civilians have been affected, with at least 12 reported injuries due to shelling and drone strikes. The fall of Waw Lay could enable the KNLA to control surrounding rural areas, diminishing the military's influence outside urban centers. Thailand has increased border security amid concerns of spillover effects from the conflict.
