Iran Conflict Impacts Swiss Gas Imports and Prices
The ongoing conflict in Iran is creating uncertainty for Swiss gas imports, as the Swiss Federal Electricity Commission (ElCom) warns of potential supply risks. Current gas storage levels in Europe are low, raising concerns about replenishment ahead of winter.

The Swiss Federal Electricity Commission (ElCom) has highlighted risks related to gas imports amid the ongoing conflict in Iran. Gas storage levels in Europe are low, raising concerns about replenishment as winter approaches.
While current market prices are lower than those during the 2021/2022 crisis, this is attributed to increased liquefied natural gas terminal capacity and high output from French nuclear power plants. However, prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz or insufficient stock replenishment could threaten supply, particularly in a harsh winter scenario.
