Iranian Navy Escalates Tensions in Strait of Hormuz, Impacting Shipping Operations
Recent incidents involving gunfire from Iranian IRGC Navy gunboats have forced multiple vessels to halt operations in the Strait of Hormuz. The situation heightens concerns for maritime security, affecting critical shipping routes for energy supplies.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has fired upon vessels, including two Indian-flagged tankers, in the Strait of Hormuz, prompting 13 of 14 India-bound ships to return to the Persian Gulf. This incident has raised significant concerns among shipping companies and insurers regarding the safety of operations in the region, where about 20% of global oil and LNG shipments transit.
Reports indicate that vessels were warned of a closure in the Strait, exacerbating uncertainty as numerous ships await clearance. The Indian government is coordinating with Iranian authorities to secure safe passage for stranded vessels. The heightened tensions may further complicate energy supply chains and impact global oil prices.
