Ireland Plans €1 Billion Purchase of Armored Vehicles from KNDS France

DEFENSE

Ireland plans to purchase armored vehicles from French manufacturer KNDS France, with the order valued at over €1 billion. The vehicles of interest include Jaguar reconnaissance and combat vehicles, Serval multi-role light armored vehicles, Griffon armored personnel carriers, and Caesar self-propelled artillery units.

The contract could be signed during French Armed Forces Minister Catherine Vautrin's anticipated visit to Dublin in late March or early April. Ireland's existing fleet of Piranha III and RG-32M vehicles must be replaced by 2030 due to high maintenance costs, and the country is also looking into acquiring radars from Thales.
