Island Power Producers Plans LNG Power Plant for Nassau Cruise Port by 2027
Island Power Producers (IPP) aims to have shore power operational at Nassau Cruise Port by 2027, pending completion of environmental reviews with the Department of Environmental Planning and Protection (DEPP). Construction may start as early as summer 2026, subject to obtaining a certificate of environmental clearance for the LNG power plant located on Arawak Cay, which will deliver 70 MW of power to the cruise port via an undersea cable.
The environmental impact assessment (EIA) outlines that the facility will enhance energy supply and resilience while reducing carbon emissions from docked cruise ships. The project includes infrastructure for receiving, unloading, storing, and regasifying LNG, along with a high-capacity power transmission cable connecting to the port. Public comments on the EIA are being solicited by DEPP before final project approval.
