Israel Launches NIS 1 Million Challenge for Critical Minerals Innovation
The Israel Innovation Authority and Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure have initiated a NIS 1 million challenge to foster technological advancements in critical minerals. This initiative targets extraction, processing, and recycling technologies, addressing crucial needs in energy security and clean energy transitions.

The Israel Innovation Authority, in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, has launched a national challenge under the Tnufa program, offering a NIS 1 million grand prize and NIS 200,000 awards for four additional winners. This initiative seeks to accelerate the development of technologies for the extraction, processing, recycling, and substitution of critical minerals, which are essential for energy security and clean energy transitions.
With a focus on deep tech solutions, the challenge aims to enhance mining efficiency, reduce environmental impacts, and develop substitutes to lessen dependency on scarce materials. As global competition intensifies for critical minerals, Israel positions itself as a technology leader, leveraging its R&D capabilities to strengthen its role in the global supply chain.
