Israel to Negotiate New 10-Year Security Deal with US Amid Reduced Military Aid Expectations

DEFENSE

Israel is set to engage in discussions with the Trump administration regarding a new 10-year security deal to extend US military support. Senior defense official Gil Pinchas indicated that Israel aims to focus on joint military and defense projects rather than cash grants, which may decrease over time.

Currently, Israel receives $3.3 billion annually in financial support under a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed in 2016, totaling $38 billion in military aid through September 2028. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed intentions to reduce Israel's reliance on US military assistance in the coming decade. Historically, US aid has been a significant part of Israel's military funding, but its relative contribution has diminished as Israel's economy has improved.
