Israeli Army to Reinforce West Bank Settlements with Heavy Arms Amid Expansion Plans
The Israeli army is bolstering its military presence in the northern West Bank by deploying heavy arms to support settlers amid plans for new settlements. With the government approving 21 new settlements and an additional 19 authorized, military officials cite a growing need for security battalions and enhanced intelligence in response to increased violence, including over 5,500 attacks by settlers against Palestinians in 2025.

The Israeli army is increasing its military presence in the northern West Bank to reinforce settlers with machine guns and anti-tank missiles, as well as to rebuild and establish new settlements. Following the establishment of numerous settlements in the past three years, military officials report a need for more security battalions.
New access routes are being created to facilitate the establishment of military outposts, particularly around the settlements of Sa-Nur, Homesh, Kadim, and Ganim. The government has approved 21 new settlements, with an additional 19 authorized.
The West Bank Division currently operates 23 defense battalions, and plans to increase this number due to ongoing security needs. The Israeli army has also enhanced intelligence and surveillance in the area. In 2025, settler groups reportedly conducted over 5,500 attacks against Palestinians, leading to numerous casualties and property damage.
