The Illankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi (ITAK) has called for MP Sivagnanam Shritharan to resign from the Constitutional Council due to his support for the military appointment of O. R. Rajasinghe as Auditor General. ITAK General Secretary M. A. Sumanthiran emphasized concerns over Shritharan's endorsement of militarization, while former Human Rights Commissioner Ambika Satkunanathan criticized his vote as contradictory to his stated opposition to military influence in state institutions. This incident follows the rejection of Rajasinghe's nomination, marking the fourth unsuccessful appointment for the position under President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The Illankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi (ITAK) has requested its MP Sivagnanam Shritharan to resign from the Constitutional Council due to his support for the appointment of an army officer, O. R. Rajasinghe, as Auditor General.
ITAK General Secretary M. A. Sumanthiran stated that the decision was made by the party's politburo, highlighting concerns regarding Shritharan's perceived endorsement of militarisation within state institutions.
Former Human Rights Commission Commissioner Ambika Satkunanathan criticized Shritharan's vote and called for an explanation, arguing that supporting a military officer contradicts his stated opposition to militarisation and undermines the independence of the Auditor General's office. This incident follows the Constitutional Council's rejection of Rajasinghe's nomination, marking the fourth failed appointment to this position since President Anura Kumara Dissanayake began submitting nominees. ITAK sources noted Shritharan has supported military appointments on multiple occasions.
