Italian Air Force Activates New Helicopter School at Viterbo Airport

The Italian Air Force has established a New Helicopter School at Viterbo Air Base, relocating the 72° Stormo from Frosinone. The inauguration occurred on January 15, 2026. The school aims to centralize rotary-wing training for all armed forces, with a completion target by 2028.
The facility will utilize modern training methods and is set to receive 30 AW-169 helicopters. The Army's flight instructors will collaborate with Air Force personnel during the transition, which emphasizes joint training standards and efficiency.
