Italy Advances Nuclear and Renewable Energy for Enhanced Energy Security
Italy aims to gradually replace natural gas with CO2-free energy sources, focusing on Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) for safety and efficiency. The country ranks second globally in nuclear manufacturing with nearly 100 companies operating abroad. RSE is coordinating international efforts on smart grids and renewable technologies, hosting a global congress in Rome in March 2026. The organization also emphasizes developing cybersecurity for energy systems and enhancing energy consumption management.

Italy is transitioning from natural gas to CO2-free energy sources, utilizing Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) which have a one in ten million incident probability. An SMR requires only 2 hectares to produce energy equivalent to 1,500 hectares of solar.
Italy is second globally in nuclear manufacturing, with around 100 companies active internationally. RSE is involved in international platforms like ISGAN and is preparing for a global congress in Rome from March 16-19, 2026. RSE also focuses on developing private AI for cybersecurity and managing energy systems, collaborating with ENEA and CNR on the cybersecurity of energy systems for digital transition.
