The Italian Ministry of Defence is accepting bids for over 16,000 Beretta MAB 9mm submachine guns, with offers due by late July. The tender encompasses 16,165 unloaded firearms stored in La Spezia, Taranto, and Augusta.
Only companies with military weapon manufacturing licenses under Italian law, or foreign firms with equivalent authorizations, may participate. The MAB, designed in 1935 and used during WWII, remained operational in Italian military service until the 1970s.
Its specifications include a weight of up to 4 kg, an overall length of 946 mm, and a firing range of 200 meters. The auction's outcome may influence future military equipment procurement strategies in Italy.
