JAL Engineering and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Launch Aero Breath Joint Venture
JAL Engineering Co., Ltd. and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries have established Aero Breath Co., Ltd. to enhance aircraft maintenance services. The joint venture, holding a capital of ¥79 million, aims to address increasing demand in the aircraft aftermarket sector as air travel recovers.

On June 1, 2026, JAL Engineering Co., Ltd. and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. formed a joint venture called Aero Breath Co., Ltd., focusing on aircraft aftermarket services. JAL Engineering holds a 51% stake, while Mitsubishi Heavy Industries owns 49%.
Headquartered at Aichi Prefectural Nagoya Airport, the venture plans to initiate regional aircraft maintenance services within fiscal 2026, pending necessary approvals. The partnership aims to leverage JAL's operational expertise and MHI's technical capabilities in response to rising maintenance demands due to recovering air passenger traffic.
The expansion aligns with MHI's recent financial strategies, which include a focus on defense equipment orders amid increased Japanese defense spending. This joint venture also reflects broader trends in energy investments between Japan and the U.S., indicating a strategic pivot in industry focus.
