Japan Self-Defense Forces to Implement Medical Information System by Fiscal 2028
The Japan Self-Defense Forces plans to introduce a medical information-sharing system in fiscal 2028, aimed at enhancing communication about injured personnel's treatment from frontline medics to hospitals. This initiative addresses the need for efficient emergency care, particularly in Japan's southwestern Nansei region, and aligns with the Ministry of Defense's strategy to improve combat trauma care capabilities.

The Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) plans to introduce a medical information-sharing system in fiscal 2028 to facilitate timely communication regarding injured personnel's conditions from frontline medics to rear-area hospitals. This system is particularly targeted for emergencies in the Nansei region and aims to replace the current manual, paper-based approach.
The initiative is part of a broader overhaul of JSDF's trauma care capabilities, responding to Japan's evolving security challenges. The Ministry of Defense is also working on a 'Next-Generation Information and Communications Strategy' to create an integrated ICT platform that includes medical care, supporting the JSDF's operational needs in hostile environments.
