Japan's New Action Plan for Economic Security and Intelligence Overhaul
In May 2025, Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry released an action plan to enhance economic security through industrial and technological autonomy. The plan promotes strategic international partnerships and trade while addressing global export risks. Concurrently, Japan plans to establish a National Intelligence Agency and anti-espionage laws to strengthen its intelligence capabilities against external threats, particularly from China and Russia.
