J&K Jatt Sabha Urges OBC Status for Jatts in Jammu and Kashmir

DEFENSE

The J&K Jatt Sabha has requested the Government of India to grant Other Backward Class (OBC) status to the Jatts of Jammu and Kashmir, citing their historical contributions to national security and ongoing socio-economic challenges. During a meeting in Kathua district, Sabha president Manjit Singh emphasized the community's sacrifices, including their involvement in conflicts from 1947 to 1971 and the hardships faced by displaced families.

He called for OBC benefits in government jobs, educational institutions, and military services. Singh also raised issues regarding inadequate compensation for landholders when land is acquired for defense or development projects.

He warned of protests if the community's demands are not met. Former MP Tarlok Singh Bajwa highlighted the rise in drug addiction affecting youth, urging collective action to address the issue. Various local leaders attended the meeting, discussing community challenges.
