Jonesboro City Water and Light Prepares for Upcoming Winter Storm

NATURAL GAS

Jonesboro City Water and Light (CWL) is preparing for a winter storm expected this weekend by implementing lessons learned from previous storms. CWL is monitoring weather models and coordinating with a larger grid operator.

They have trucks and generators ready at key facilities for water and wastewater services. Residents are advised to place flags near water meters for easier location by crews and to let faucets drip slightly to prevent frozen pipes.

Significant changes have been made since the 2021 winter storm, including improvements to local winter preparations and the natural gas infrastructure. CWL reports that their transmission structures have been upgraded to hurricane-rated steel poles, enhancing their ability to withstand ice. Customers are advised to have extra blankets and food and to avoid connecting generators to the CWL system.
