JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Citigroup Inc. are in discussions to provide $1 billion in financing for a gas pipeline in Argentina, part of a consortium led by Pan American Energy Group. The project, Southern Energy, aims to transport gas from the Vaca Muerta shale formation to a liquefaction terminal on the Atlantic coast.
The consortium also includes YPF, Pampa Energía, Harbour Energy, and Golar LNG. Last year, a similar deal for a pipeline and port dedicated to shale oil was completed. The new pipeline will require construction and is expected to connect the Neuquén region with Río Negro. The negotiations are ongoing, and terms may change before finalization.
