Kathairos Solutions Develops Nitrogen-Based System to Reduce Methane Emissions in Oil and Gas
Kathairos Solutions, a Calgary cleantech firm, has developed a nitrogen-based system to eliminate methane venting from pneumatic devices at remote oil and gas well sites. The company has abated over 850,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalent emissions and works with over 70 producers across Canada and the U.S.
Its technology is in line with Canadian regulations requiring significant reductions in methane emissions by 2030. Kathairos has established partnerships, including an equity investment from Halfway River Group, and was recognized as a finalist in the 2025 Platts Global Energy Awards. The system combines on-site nitrogen storage with monitoring, facilitating emissions reductions without requiring new power infrastructure.
