Kazakhstan Advances UAV Integration in Military and Domestic Production Efforts
Kazakhstan is enhancing its military capabilities with UAVs and aims for indigenous drone production by 2026. This shift is crucial as the country moves toward self-reliance in military technology.

Kazakhstan's Ministry of Defense announced in January the incorporation of smaller UAVs into its airborne forces, marking a strategic shift towards using drones as tactical assets. The country began its military drone initiatives in 2016, procuring systems from China, Russia, the U.S., Israel, and Turkiye, with a notable 2022 agreement with Turkiye for licensed domestic production of the Anka UAV.
By December 2025, Kazakhstan aims to establish domestic manufacturing capabilities for smaller FPV systems, which could lead to its emergence as a regional drone hub. However, civilian drone development remains reliant on international partnerships, and the challenge of competing with established manufacturers in China and Russia persists.
