Kent County Planning Commission Approves Church Expansion and DEARNG Facility
On February 12, the Kent County Regional Planning Commission unanimously supported projects including a $100 million Delaware Army National Guard readiness center and Berean Community Church expansion. The readiness center will be built in three phases starting in FY 2028 on 36.3 acres near Cheswold, while the church plans to construct a 6,000-square-foot addition and a 13,920-square-foot sanctuary. Other approvals included a two-lot subdivision and a micro-brewery with retail spaces.

The Kent County Regional Planning Commission approved several proposals on February 12, including a $100 million readiness center for the Delaware Army National Guard (DEARNG) on 36.3 acres east of Cheswold, to be developed in three phases starting in FY 2028. Phase 1 involves a 42,000-square-foot readiness center, Phase 2 includes an 18,000-square-foot vehicle-maintenance facility, and Phase 3 adds a 32,000-square-foot expansion.
Additionally, Berean Community Church plans a 6,000-square-foot addition and a 13,920-square-foot sanctuary. A two-lot subdivision and an 11,902-square-foot micro-brewery were also approved.
