Khadakwasla-Fursungi Tunnel Project to Save 2.5 TMC Water and Improve Irrigation in Pune
The Khadakwasla-Fursungi Tunnel Project, valued at Rs 2,200 crore, aims to enhance water conservation by preventing leakage and evaporation. Currently, tunneling is underway using Tunnel Boring Machines, with nearly 1 km completed. The project will cover 34 km, with 28 km underground, expected to save 2.5 TMC of water and irrigate an additional 3,472 hectares of land. Construction is set to complete in three years, following environmental clearance.

The Khadakwasla-Fursungi Tunnel Project is accelerating with the goal of conserving water and improving irrigation efficiency. The Rs 2,200 crore project addresses issues like leakage and evaporation by relocating water transport underground.
Excavation is ongoing at four locations using Tunnel Boring Machines, achieving nearly 1 km of tunneling in two months. The 34 km tunnel will consist of 28 km underground, expected to save 2.5 TMC of water and irrigate an additional 3,472 hectares. The project, which recently received environmental clearance, is scheduled for completion in three years.
