Khokana Section of Kathmandu-Tarai Expressway Stalled Due to Toll Plaza Relocation Proposal
Construction in the Khokana segment of the Kathmandu-Tarai Expressway is halted due to pending Cabinet approval on the toll plaza relocation. The project's overall progress stands at 46.88%, with significant advancements in other sections, yet unresolved land acquisition issues continue to impede completion.

The Kathmandu-Tarai Expressway, spanning 70.977 kilometers, faces construction delays in the Khokana section due to unresolved issues regarding the toll plaza relocation to Pharsidol. The project office awaits Cabinet approval to amend the Detailed Project Report (DPR) after previous administration decisions failed to resolve the proposal submitted during Sushila Karki's premiership.
Current physical progress of the expressway is at 46.88%, with construction ongoing in various packages, although the Khokana-Dukuchhap section remains stalled. The Nepal Army oversees construction, with 89 bridges and multiple tunnels under development.
The estimated project cost is Rs211.93 billion, with a completion deadline set for March 2027. Continued delays in finalizing the DPR may further affect timelines.
