Kiem2050 Project in Kirchberg to Utilize Timber for Sustainable Construction
The Kiem2050 project in Kirchberg aims to cut CO2 emissions by 30% using timber in construction. The first apartments are set to be completed by late 2027.

The Kiem2050 project will consist of four buildings, including 148 apartments and various commercial spaces, primarily constructed with timber. Prefabricated elements from a CIT Blaton factory in Belgium will be assembled in Luxembourg, promoting a circular economy through potential material reuse.
The project is projected to reduce CO2 emissions by 30% compared to conventional methods, utilizing beech and poplar sourced from Belgium and France. Despite facing challenges in apartment sales, the Kirchberg Fund acquired 135 units to maintain construction momentum. Completion of the first flats is anticipated by the end of 2027, positioning the development as a technical and social laboratory for future sustainable projects.
