KIS Group and PT SMART Tbk Launch Bio-CNG Plant Construction in North Sumatra, Indonesia

NATURAL GAS

KIS Group and PT SMART Tbk have initiated the construction of a Bio-CNG plant at the Padang Halaban Palm Oil Mill in North Sumatra, Indonesia. This facility will be KIS Group's fourth commercial Bio-CNG plant and the first for PT SMART Tbk.

Under a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) model, the plant is set to begin operations in Q1 2027, capturing methane from Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) to produce around 127,000 MMBTU of renewable Bio-CNG annually. The project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 62,484 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent each year. The Bio-CNG produced will replace fossil-based natural gas for Unilever Oleochemical Indonesia, supporting Indonesia's clean energy transition.
