Kongsberg Defense and Aerospace has begun construction of a missile manufacturing facility in James City County, Virginia, expected to create around 180 jobs and enhance production capacity for its Naval Strike Missile and Joint Strike Missile. Construction will start in Q2 2026, with missile production anticipated to commence by the end of 2027, generating over $100 million in economic benefits and opportunities for local suppliers. Full production capacity is projected by the end of 2028.

The new facility will enhance production capacity and technical support for Kongsberg's Naval Strike Missile (NSM) and Joint Strike Missile (JSM), advanced fifth-generation cruise missiles. In 2024, the U.S.
Navy awarded Kongsberg a multi-year contract for NSMs for its Over-the-Horizon Weapon System and the NMESIS, while the Air Force selected JSMs for F-35A aircraft. The project is projected to generate over $100 million in economic benefits and create opportunities for local suppliers. Full production capacity is anticipated by the end of 2028.
