Kongsberg Begins Construction of Missile Manufacturing Facility in Virginia, USA

DEFENSE

Kongsberg Defense and Aerospace has commenced construction of a missile manufacturing facility in James City County, Virginia, USA, aiming to create approximately 180 jobs. Construction is set to begin in Q2 2026, with missile production expected to start by the end of 2027.

The new facility will enhance production capacity and technical support for Kongsberg's Naval Strike Missile (NSM) and Joint Strike Missile (JSM), advanced fifth-generation cruise missiles. In 2024, the U.S.

Navy awarded Kongsberg a multi-year contract for NSMs for its Over-the-Horizon Weapon System and the NMESIS, while the Air Force selected JSMs for F-35A aircraft. The project is projected to generate over $100 million in economic benefits and create opportunities for local suppliers. Full production capacity is anticipated by the end of 2028.
