Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace held a groundbreaking ceremony for its Missile Manufacturing and Maintenance Facility in James City County, Virginia, expected to create 180 jobs. The facility will manufacture naval strike and joint strike missiles, with production starting in late 2027 and full capacity by 2028.

The U.S. Navy awarded Kongsberg a multi-year contract for naval strike missiles in 2024. The project, announced in 2024, will provide over $100 million in economic benefits and is supported by state grants.

Construction will begin in spring 2025. The plant is Kongsberg's largest outside Norway and will be part of a 2 million square foot industrial park.
