Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace Inc. broke ground on a new 150,000-square-foot facility in James City County, Virginia, to produce cruise missiles for the U.S. military. The project, announced in September 2024, involves an investment of over $100 million and is expected to create nearly 200 jobs.

The facility will manufacture the Naval Strike Missile and Joint Strike Missile, with production anticipated to start in 2028. The location was chosen for its military presence and proximity to military sites. The project aims to strengthen domestic defense manufacturing while reinforcing U.S.-Norway ties.
