Konyak Union Denounces Joint Security Operation in Mon District
The Konyak Union condemned the April 22 joint operation by Assam Rifles and Territorial Army, criticizing the arrest of a village chairman for intelligence failures. The incident has heightened trust issues between civilians and security forces in the region, raising concerns about the effectiveness of military presence under AFSPA.

On April 22, a joint operation by the 20 Assam Rifles and the 166 Territorial Army in Mon District resulted in the arrest of Shaopa Konyak, the Village Council Chairman of Namthai. The Konyak Union condemned this action as an intelligence failure, asserting that Konyak is a committed public leader.
The Union criticized the Nagaland Police and local Assam Rifles for their lack of awareness regarding the operation. They expressed concern over the growing distrust between locals and security forces, warning that such actions could lead to further violence reminiscent of the Oting incident.
The Union also rejected claims of ULFA-I activity in the district, insisting that the arrested individuals were attempting to surrender and had entered Mon by mistake. Calls for accountability and responsible conduct from security agencies were reiterated.
