Kookmin University and Arion Launch Quantum-Secure Satellite Communication System
Kookmin University has demonstrated a secure communications system integrating low-earth-orbit satellite links with post-quantum cryptography. This advancement addresses potential quantum computing threats and aims to enhance communication during crises.

The research team at Kookmin University, led by Professor Yi Ok-yeon, has successfully integrated post-quantum cryptography with low-earth-orbit satellite links, validated over an Iridium Communications network. The system employs quantum key distribution alongside ML-KEM and ML-DSA algorithms for enhanced security, particularly against 'harvest now, decrypt later' attacks.
The architecture enables interoperability with Arion Communication's TYTO satellite terminals and sets the stage for pilot-scale deployment. Future plans include expanding capabilities to defense communications and creating a 'Quantum Campus' for advancing quantum security research across various domains.
