Kraaifontein Wastewater Treatment Plant Achieves 94% in Green Drop Assessment
Kraaifontein Wastewater Treatment Works in Cape Town scored 94% in the Green Drop assessment, indicating strong operational performance and compliance. This recognition underscores significant investments in wastewater infrastructure, aimed at enhancing water quality and resilience amid national challenges.

The Kraaifontein Wastewater Treatment Works (WWTW) secured second place in the Western Cape's Green Drop assessment with a score of 94%. This evaluation, part of the 2025 Green Drop program led by the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS), assesses the condition of wastewater infrastructure.
Kraaifontein WWTW operated at 71% of its 7Ml/d capacity while achieving high compliance rates: 94% for microbiological standards and 79% for both chemical and physical compliance. The City of Cape Town plans to invest R1.8 billion in wastewater infrastructure this financial year.
Ongoing projects include the installation of water meters and expansion of alternative water sources, aimed at improving overall water management and service delivery. These investments are crucial for addressing infrastructure challenges and enhancing environmental resilience.
