Kwara State Reopens Schools Following Security Improvements
The Kwara State Government has approved the reopening of all schools starting Monday after weeks of closure due to security concerns. The decision was announced by the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, following successful military operations targeting bandits in the state.
The commissioner noted that the security situation has improved and emphasized ongoing vigilance. Recent operations by the Nigerian Army and other security agencies have led to the dislodgement of bandits from forest hideouts and the destruction of their camps.
Arrests of suspected bandits and recovery of arms have been reported. The closures had resulted from increased kidnappings and attacks, prompting parents to withdraw children from schools. Olohungbebe reassured stakeholders that the safety of students and education workers is a priority, urging schools to communicate closely with security agencies.
