DEFENSE

Lana 'Sati' Chornohorska, an artist and drone operator with Ukraine's volunteer forces, was honored in Kyiv on January 6 following her death from a Russian drone strike on January 1. A public memorial was held at Baikove Cemetery, attended by friends, fellow soldiers, and supporters.

Chornohorska was killed while withdrawing from positions in Zaporizhzhia Oblast during a Russian attack involving a 'Molniya' unmanned aerial vehicle. She joined the Ukrainian Volunteer Army's 'Udachnyky' unit in 2024, serving as both pilot and navigator for UAVs.

Her unit described her as dedicated and courageous, emphasizing her contributions to culture and activism alongside her military service. Chornohorska is remembered as a soldier whose artistic and civic life was cut short by the ongoing conflict.
