Kymeta and JDI Collaborate on Multi-Band Metasurface Aperture for Satellite Communications
Kymeta and Japan Display Inc. (JDI) have entered a master supply agreement to develop a multi-band metasurface aperture for simultaneous Ku- and Ka-band satellite operations. This collaboration aims to produce the industry’s first multi-band metasurface terminal, enhancing satellite communications capabilities. The Ku/Ka metasurface terminal will address defense demands and is expected to launch globally in 2027, following product demonstrations in 2026.

Kymeta and Japan Display Inc. (JDI) announced a master supply agreement to develop a next-generation multi-band metasurface aperture for Ku- and Ka-band satellite frequencies. This partnership aims to deliver the industry's first multi-band metasurface terminal.
The collaboration combines Kymeta's metasurface antenna technology with JDI's thin film transistor (TFT) manufacturing capabilities. The resulting Ku/Ka terminal will initially support defense requirements and is set for product demonstrations in the first half of 2026, with a global rollout anticipated in 2027. The project is part of JDI's 'Beyond Display' initiative.
