L3Harris Technologies has been awarded a full-rate production contract by General Dynamics Electric Boat for 26 communication shipsets for Virginia- and Columbia-class submarines, marking the largest order for L3Harris. The contract extends through 2033, providing support for future Columbia-class submarines and allied navies.
The communication systems will improve situational awareness and information exchange among crews. The Virginia-class submarines are designed for various operations, while the Columbia-class will replace the Ohio-class as the US's primary sea-based nuclear deterrent. The US Navy plans to invest $132 billion in 12 Columbia-class submarines.
