On December 18, Lackawanna College broke ground on its Career & Technical Innovation (CTI) Center in Scranton, part of a shift in workforce development and economic policy. The CTI project aims to align education with industry needs by treating career and technical education as essential infrastructure.
Designed to open in summer 2026, the CTI Center will support traditional students and incumbent workers through undergraduate programs, corporate training, and short-term credentials. The facility will span approximately 24,000 square feet and include programs in robotics, automotive systems, cybersecurity, and communications technology.
The initiative is supported by a Neighborhood Assistance Program tax credit from Coterra Energy and reflects a public-private partnership aimed at addressing systemic workforce shortages. Successful outcomes from similar programs, such as the School of Petroleum and Natural Gas at Lackawanna College, highlight the effectiveness of this model.
