Ladakh Government to Advance 13 GW Solar Power Project for Changthang Region
The Ladakh government has committed to studying a proposed 13 GW solar power project after a delegation from the Changthang region requested its implementation. Approved by the central government on October 18, 2023, the project will include transmission lines through Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana, with completion expected by 2029-30. The project, managed by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, is anticipated to enhance employment and regional development.

The Ladakh government has assured a delegation from the Changthang region that it will evaluate the proposed 13 GW solar power project. This project, sanctioned by the central government on October 18, 2023, aims to develop transmission lines through Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana, integrating with the national grid.
Power Grid Corporation of India Limited will implement the project, expected to be completed by 2029-30. The delegation raised concerns about limited livelihood opportunities and migration, emphasizing the solar project as a key opportunity for economic transformation in the newly formed Changthang district.
