Ladakh LG Launches Parallel Taxi Track Project at IAF Station in Leh
Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta inaugurated the Parallel Taxi Track project at the Indian Air Force station in Leh, aimed at enhancing operational capability and air connectivity in the region. Completed in 2023 at a cost of approximately Rs 452 crore, the project includes a parallel taxi track and facilities to support heavy aircraft operations, significantly improving efficiency and safety for military and civil aviation. The initiative is also expected to bolster national security and support local tourism, benefiting the regional economy.

Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta inaugurated the Parallel Taxi Track (PTT) project at the Indian Air Force (IAF) station in Leh, enhancing operational capability and air connectivity in the region. The project, initiated in 2023 and completed at a cost of approximately Rs 452 crore, features a parallel taxi track, two large aircraft dispersals, and five taxi links to support heavy aircraft operations.
Military aircraft operations on the new taxi track have started with some restrictions. The project is expected to significantly improve efficiency, safety, and responsiveness for both military and civil aviation, and facilitate future resurfacing of the main runway.
The Leh Airfield is strategically important for national security and supports tourism, benefiting the local economy. The LG emphasized the IAF's role in medical emergencies and civil-military cooperation in executing infrastructure projects.
