Largest UK Investment in Namibia: Gerus Solar Plant Launches Export Operations
The Gerus solar plant, a N$340 million investment by Solarcentury Africa, has commenced exporting electricity to the Southern African Power Pool. This marks a significant development in Namibia's energy landscape as it represents the country's first merchant solar site.

The Gerus solar photovoltaic power plant, with a capacity of 19.3 MWp, officially opened on February 6, 2026. This facility, strategically located 30 km from Otjiwarongo, has been operational in exporting solar power to the Southern African Power Pool since December 2025.
Fully financed by Solarcentury, the project employed over 400 local workers during construction and is designed to supply renewable electricity for the next 30 years. Unlike traditional energy projects in Namibia, this site operates without a pre-secured off-taker, allowing for immediate supply negotiations with industrial users. This approach signifies a notable shift in energy procurement practices in the region, potentially influencing future investments.
